My name is Grant Jenkins. I am a Christ follower, ENFP, high “I”, friend, foodie and sometimes blogger. I love people, stories, music, writing, dark chocolate, traveling & laughing and am likely to blog about any of those things at any given time. I love to cook and would love to have a Food Network show called The Dubstep Gourmet.
I was born in Tyler, Texas, spent the first 26 years of my life in Joplin, Missouri and now live in Nashville, Tennessee area, where I’m on staff at Cross Point Church. I worked in the music industry from 2002 – 2010 and was blessed with a ridiculous amount of crazy and amazing stories and experiences stemming from my work and travels. I’m very thankful for every experience I had throughout that 8 year period, and reflect often on how they shaped me.
In 2009-2010 I experienced a major heart and life realignment that reshaped how I see and process pretty much everything. Through a series of events which I believe have been anything but inconsequential, God allowed a wrecking of my heart and life. Said “wrecking” was the impetus behind this blog and why I chose to call it “An Idol Heart”.
I became increasingly aware that my heart is indeed a “factory which mass produces idols” and, as such, is often prone to bow to and reach for anything but Christ. Coming into that knowledge continues to shape how I view my life.
My journey since then has looked nothing like what I thought it would, but I am thankful for every single broken, fearful, uncertain moment that has forced me to wrestle with my heart and fight for my identity. This blog has become a place where I often chronicled the twists and turns of my journey as they happened, sharing my experiences with many who found traces of their own story scattered throughout the pages of my own.
Here are some of my blog posts where you can learn more about my story:
I’m passionate about my faith, life and culture, and how all those things intersect. So, this blog will be some sort of a collision of all those things. I hope you find something here you connect with.
